Mupen64 Core

Just wondering if anyone knows why the core performs so poorly compared to Mupen64Plus-AE when they both seem to be at the same commit essentially from Mupen64 master?

I get around 20fps for most games on Glide64 with the libretro core vs 60fps in Mupen64Plus-AE also with Glide64.

Maybe hunterk could offer some input?

Edit: Referring to the latest alpha build of mupen64plus-ae from paulscode.com since the play store version is severely outdated and wouldn’t make a great comparison.

Hmm. No clue. It’s a pretty complicated core and our fork has deviated quite a bit from upstream, so any number of differences could be at play. Twinaphex is planning to do some more work on mupen64plus-libretro at some point in the not-too-distant future, so maybe we can do some comparisons then and track down any discrepancies.
