Mupen64Plus black screen

I just get a black screen for any N64 games I run - the sound works though.

I’ve tried a number of things from what I’ve read on the net, and these forums;

in retroarch.cfg, the “video_shader” setting was

video_shader = “”

but I set it to “null” anyway. No difference.

I tried choosing a “glsl” shader in the “Shaders” option under “Quick Menu” after loading an N64 game, still no difference.

Always tried restarting RetroArch after every change.

I have an old nVidia GeForce 7300 GT in this home made arcade machine I’m using, I wonder if the age of the card is the issue?

Yes, it could be that the card doesn’t support a high enough GL. Can you try using the ParaLLEl-N64 core with default options and see if it treats you any better?

Thanks for the reply. Ok I tried ParaLLEl-N64 (default options), and the games took quite a while to load (15 seconds of the desktop before anything appeared) and then not only was it a black screen, but there was no sound either this time. But I could still get to the RetroArch menu.

This same computer can games flawlessly with Project64 and Mupen64Plus standalone emulators, but I wanted to benefit from the unified setup of RetroArch. I guess I will give up on RetroArch for N64 for this computer (but continue to use it for the ones that do work).
