Mupen64Plus-Next core not saving properly for Densha de Go! 64

I’m not sure what’s going on with my save file for the game. I’ve got 3 gold stars so far, but when I started playing again today, I noticed that the ones I’ve gotten gold stars for are no longer there. I also checked the rankings and all my rankings were wiped too. Is this game known for doing this and do I have to do those 3 trains again to get the, “I like Trains” achievement?

Testing to confirm this. I just beat the first train mission with a gold star. Afterwards, I saw that it automatically saved and I confirmed the gold star was next to the train mission that I just cleared. I double checked the options menu to make sure there wasn’t any kind of manual save that I can do. I then quit out of the Mupen64Plus-Next emulator and loaded it back up again. I checked and the gold star is now gone again. It doesn’t seem like I can save this game at all.

I checked to make sure that it wasn’t just the core acting up and tried another game (Harvest Moon 64). I completed a day on that and wrote in the diary to save. After that, I closed out of the emulator and loaded it back up to see that my save file was still there and in tact.

You are running on Nintendo console ?

Unfortunately, we don’t have documentation how to provide log on this platform.

Do you reproduce the issue using nightly build ?

Thank you.

Hi Gouchi,

Yes, it’s for the N64 core, “Mupen64Plus-Next” for Retroarch. When I have time tomorrow, I’ll download the nightly build of Retroarch and see if that fixes the issue or not.

I’ve also done some more testing with Densha de Go! 64 and found that out the following with other cores:

RAP64 - Doesn’t work at all P64 - Doesn’t work at all Luna’s Project64 - Doesn’t work at all RALibRetro - Works, but has the same issue where the game does not save Firelight - Works, but the none of the graphic settings makes the image stable and is very difficult to play in that state ParaLLel - Boots up through the intro, but goes to a black screen after that.

On which system are you running RetroArch ?

Thank you.

Hi gouchi,

I just tried using the nightly build and I was still able to reproduce the issue. I’ve attached a picture below of my system that I use RetroArch on.

Thank you.

Sorry for the double post, but I solved the issue. There is a translation patch that you need to apply to the rom in order for it to be in English. Turns out, that patch somehow made it so that my rom couldn’t save anymore. Running the previous patch (v1.1) works but the current version (v1.3) causing that saving issue.
