Mupen64plus_next_libretro "failed to load content bug"

As of 1.9.2 using mupen64plus_next_libretro if I load an N64 game it loads fine. However if I close it and try to open another n64 game I get “failed to load content” dialogue. (This is for games that are known to work well)

Windows 10, Retroarch 1.9.2, Vulkan, Achievements On, Slang Shaders On.

Are your games zipped? If so, does it make a difference if they’re unzipped first?

Yes, unzipped same behavior. I think this started when I updated to 1.9.2. Don’t know if it’s Retroarch or core causing the problem.

It doesn’t load anything for me on Android either.

This bug is strange is odd.

I created a new 1.9.3 installation in a new directory, downloaded the most recent mupen64plus_next_libretro core, created a new playlist and tested a few games. Behavior was as expected - Open a game, close it, open another one, it ran fine, closed it, opened another one - no problems etc.

This is where I am super confused and I’m hoping somebody else can think of something I can’t to explain this.

I deleted my original RetroArch directory, repeated the steps above EXACTLY and I’m getting a similar bug to before. The difference being Retroarch is now crashing rather than showing the “failed to load content” dialogue it previously showed.

The strangest part is, if I change that directory name by one letter, the bug goes away, and it comes back if I change the directory.

Is this a regedit windows thing? or something at the driver level? I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall trying to solve it.

Update - Changing the name of retroarch.exe to retroarch1.exe also prevents the crash. any idea what is causing this?

No, that’s definitely strange. I seem to recall something sort of like this a few months ago but I don’t recall any of the details. I’ll ask around and see if anyone else remembers more.

Just checked and it’s no longer happening. I don’t know what fixed it as I didn’t update update Retroarch or nvidia drivers and as far as I can see Windows hasn’t installed any updates since I last posted. Strange.
