Music, but Black screen

I’m playing FF9 on the iOS PSX Rearmed core of Retroarch, and when I enter the last dungeon, the music starts, but the screen remains black. Do you guys happen to know what might be the cause?

Thanks in advance.

edit: I’ve tried using 2 different ROMS, but same result.

Try different bios?

you mean scph1001.bin, right? I’ve tried changing it a few times but still the same problem. Music works fine, control buttons in place, but black screen.

Is it close to a cut scene that segues straight into a fight? Apparently, that can cause problems with some emulators, perhaps this one included, as they relate to savestates: http://forums.ngemu.com/showthread.php?t=135870

Wow thanks! I really appreciate it! How did you happen to find out about this solution? Was it something you were aware of already? (asking to learn so that I can find solutions by myself in the future)

I just did a google search for ‘ff9 rom black screen problem’ and poked around in some forums until I found one that sounded similar to your issue. Several mentioned bad ROMs, etc., so it was helpful that you included your initial troubleshooting outcomes in your post to weed those out.
