My gamepad didn't work just in one particular game

Clarification: this is not a request for help, since the issue was already resolved (by simply restarting the PC). It was just a very weird occurrence and I wanted to know if anyone has ever observed anything similar.

So I have an 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller (which is reported by the systems as “8BitDo Ultimate Wireless / Pro 2 Wired Controller”), and while somewhat flaky, most of the time it is working.

Yesterday I have tried playing the PS2 version of Broken Sword 3 (The Sleeping Dragon), but Retroarch just ignored any input from the controller. The input from keyboard was still working, even in Broken Sword 3. In all the other games that I have tried within the same session, the controller worked just fine, which is why it seems so weird to me. It was just that one particular game where the input from this device was ignored. Exiting and running Retroarch again didn’t help, and I did not see anything useful in the log. The only more or less related warning was [WARN] [SDL] Couldn't open haptic device of the joypad #0: Haptic: Joystick isn't a haptic device.., but the log always has this warning, even when this gamepad works fine.

So, anyone ever run into something like this?
