NES, Amiga, PSX PAL games - PC 60hz to 50hz

Hi everyone.

Recently I’ve changed my retro gaming laptop to PC. I connected it via HDMI to LCD TV. Now I can switch Windows refresh rate from 60 to 50hz and also my TV switching to 50hz automatically. Because I’m gonna play only PAL games (NES under FCUmm in Dendy mode). RetroArch found out that device now works in 50hz but by default vertical refresh rate was set 60hz so I changed it to 50hz. Now in my opinion all games work smooth and scrolling perfectly. Although I want to ask you do all this changes I’ve done can influence negativity on RetroArch or its cores? I’ll thankful for your help.

as long as it’s doing what you want, you’re all set

Thanks for your reply :slightly_smiling_face: I’m just concerned that I overdid a little bit. But generally changing PC refresh rate from 60 to 50hz was a good move right? Now a synch is better and I have smaller input lag.

There is no need to manually change the default rate if running PAL games on Windows machines.

Sure by default it does not change it automatically, but only in non-windowed fullscreen mode.

But if I don’t change the refresh rate manually in Windows settings It’ll cause an annoying screen stuttering am I right?

No, stuttering happens if the refresh rate does not match with the core rate. I was implying that the refresh rate changing happens automatically if you allow it.

So technicly switching from 60 to 50hz in Windows settings wasn’t wrong? My TV can’t change refresh rate automatically. It always shows what resolution and refresh rate is currently set.

RA is the one that is doing the changing, not the TV. TV only needs to have the rate available.

Of course it isn’t “wrong” to manually change it, but why on earth would you want to hassle with that each and every single time when it can be done easily on demand.

I changed it only once. I play only PAL games so it isn’t necessary switching refresh rate in Windows again.
