NES: Aspect Ratio & Colors differences

I am using core provided aspect ratio. It seems that bnes is not getting the right aspect ratio and colors.

Nestopia:

Bnes:

  1. There is no such thing as “correct colors” when it comes to the NES. The NES natively outputs an encoded NTSC signal, which must be decoded in order to get color information onto the screen, but the resulting colors depend on the decoding algorithm. Thus, back in the day, the colors varied depending on the TV, and emulators are no different, as they all have their own algorithms. In the end, it comes down to personal preference.

  2. Looks to me like you have overscan cropping enabled on the Nestopia core, which is part of why the aspect ratio looks different.

In any case, the Nestopia core is better than the BNES core in general. No real sense in using the latter.

Thx for the feedback.

  1. Ok color depends on the used core.
  2. Where can I change the cropping settings in RGUI?

Go into RGUI>Video options>aspect ratio. You can cycle through several different options. Yours might be set to “core provided”. If it is set to 16:15 (1:1) par I think it will look correct.

Edit - Sorry, I was looking at your images and to me the bnes image aspect ratio is more correct than the nestopia one. You mean you want the bnes core to make the character selection boxes rectangle rather than square?
