Netplay

I noticed that the ps3 rgui has options for netplay, (ver 1.0.0.2) however when i attempt to input an IP or even a name RetroArch seems to freeze. Not exactly freeze, i mean the ps3 button still brings up the dash, so i assume its stuck trying to input and for some reason cant escape once committed.

So does the ps3 support netplay?

And whilst on the subject (albeit off on a tangent) is there any chance of getting a config option? I merely ask because the windows version would be greatly simplified with this option also. Ive spent an entire evening (just over 8hrs now) attempting to netplay some retro games with a friend running a mac and myself stranded on windows (5hrs in i had the genius idea to attempt on ps3) its been a long night

Thanks for your time.

Chroma.

It might work. It’s never been tested. However, you can’t input anything because there’s no way to get keyboard input yet. At this point, you can’t really do anything with it, but it may just work once the onscreen keyboard is there.

For Windows, there will be netplay options in RGUI in the next version (to be released in a couple of days). In the meantime, you can try one of lordashram’s nightlies from the ‘development’ subforum, which should have netplay accessible via RGUI.

thanks for the quick response, id tried inputting via the ps3 keyboard i had laying around to no avail  figured it was an input issue.

I compiled my own nightly version and im just about to test it against the 1.0.0.2 osx version, then i figure i can try testing against the ps3 version (as the ps3 version hosting) and see if it can handle it.

if nothing else it’ll be interesting.

Neat! Good luck, and let us know how it goes

Just a quick update, Ive had no success, however its entirely from a windows standpoint, when attempting to netplay at all i receive a “failed to open socket” error.

I haven’t been able to figure exactly why this is occurring, but likely a toolchain issue on my end, ill need to read through the src and compile logs to trace it back. I still maintain this holds promise, as soon as i get netplay functioning between two windows machines ill take another stab at it

Its on my back burner at present, but just letting people know ive not given up just yet.

just got a free couple of hours. Latest build (windows 1.0.0.2RGUI 21st March 2014 build) ) interfaces nicely over netplay with a ps3 (at least on a lan) tested several snes roms (SNES9x Next core) and it worked flawlessly. This is with the PS3 set to host as server and the windows machine as the client, lagless play over a lan anyway.

When a reasonable method of text input gets developed the PS3 should have no issues running as a client or a server

oh man, that’s awesome! Thanks for the update.

Are we going to get support for netplay Ps3 to Ps3 with onscreen keyboard in 1.1?

I agree … It would be great to see onscreen keyboard support in v1.1.
