New Emulators?

I am starting to clean up my console gaming area and put stuff into storage, because I’m heading more towards PC gaming turtle programming. The latest game systems that I have and are done with are the PS3 PS4 and switch, I was wondering instead of having notes games take up space, how long does it take retroarch to include these emulators to download once they are publicly out to download? I’ve seen PS3 and PS4 emulators out along with the switch, are these actually real or a scam of some sort? I would really appreciate to play my latest games on retroarch if I can. I was hoping they would come out with those emulators seen but I trend to trust retroarch more, so when does retroarch get new emulators?

The last I’ve heard from PS3 emulation was that it was experimental, there were even reports of fake ps3 emulation software that’s likely some form of virus/spyway/malware etc. I would hold on to your games and console for legal reasons in case you get accused of piracy. Blame that negative image on Nintendo, since they are known for attacking emulation and ROMS, and accusing people of video game piracy.

I too have drifted towards emulation and pc gaming due to how shitty & expensive console gaming has become.

As for PS4 Emulation I came across this, maybe someone here can shed light on that.

PS4 emulation is still very rudimentary, but PS3 (via RPCS3) and Switch (via Yuzu and Ryujinx) emulation are quite legit already. However, we probably won’t have cores for them any time soon, as we have our hands full with other things right now, but anyone can make a core and we certainly wouldn’t discourage anyone who wanted to work on a core for any of those systems.

I had on PC rig 3 SSD’s, 1 for my main operating system Linux Mint, the 2nd is WIndows 10 purely for pc games, and the 3rd is Lakka OS. Lakka OS deserves more mention because you can transform your device to pure video game emulation Operating System without wasting resources on miscallinous process and space that are associated with typical normal operating systems and instead use all the resources for gaming.

I say a extra hard drive because last time I installed Lakka OS it wipes and turns that whole drive into Lakka OS. As much as I love the Raspberry Pi 4 running Lakka OS, it still does not have the power to run full gamecube and PS2 emulation.

RPCS3 made leaps of progress in the last 3 years alone. Currently, you can play over 2000 games from start to finish (although individual glitches are possible and likely to occur here and there).

The same with Yuzu and Ryujinx. The Switch emulation is accurate enough to allow for 0-day releases compatibility :exploding_head:

May I also interest you with other previous gen emulators such as Cemu and Xenia (WiiU and Xbox 360 emulator, respectively). Although Xbox reportedly is a very hard system to emulate, there was some significant progress made in the last years.

And PS4 emulation seems to be a fact, although you need to be careful here. There was a PCSX4 project that looked very professional and legit, but turned out to be a scam. But there are other emus in the works as far as I know, but still very rough.

As much as I’m excited with this progress and would love to see those emus as cores one day, I’m 100x more excited about PCSX2 core and would love to see it support more platforms beyond desktops. @hunterk , have you got some inside scoop on this matter?

We’re limited by the dynarecs there. If someone writes ARM64 dynarecs for it, we could potentially make it available on a lot of other platforms, but that’s a tall order and essentially what the license-violating commercial Android port that shall not be named has added.

RPCS3 actually just announced that every piece of PS3 software is now at least in “bootable” status, which is a pretty big milestone.

Xenia is coming along well (X360) but not as well as RPCS3 yet unfortunately. I think that’s just a result of more people associating things with PlayStation than Xbox.

Speaking of, XEMU is coming along FANTASTICALLY these days. Even better than CXBX-Reloaded IMO. I would pay to see a Xemu core get added to RetroArch.

Most of these are from pc gaming, mostly on Windows, but it would be a nice addition for them to be available on other platforms via emulation. An example would be adding other RPG Maker versions for emulation, apart from the available RPGM 2000/2003 there is still VX, VXace, MV and now MZ. There is another that is like a fork of RPG Maker called “Wolf RPG Editor”. There’s also Ren’py which is popular for VN’s and VN interactive games.

“WOLF RPG Editor is a game construction tool that can create complex role playing games. It is often regarded as being aimed at advanced users, so keep this in mind if you intend to use it. The engine is free to use, and the public license allows you to freely distribute and even sell your created games.”

Aside from PC game enignes, expanded emulation to get Taito Type X arcade games compatible and working. Taito Type X Link 2 game list
