No Save/VMU with Reicast

I can play Games Fine but when I try and Save with Dreamcast Games it says I can’t as no VMU is there.

How can I add a VMU so I can save games?

You have to format the VMU. You can do this via the Dreamcast’s bios menu. There is an option in the core settings that allows you to load the bios instead of the game.

So you load the Bios from “load content” instead of a Game?

You load a game like you normally would.

Then you go to core options and there you will find a setting that lets you load to the bios. Enable that and close RetroArch (so it can save the setting).

Then you load the game again and it should go to the bios instead of the game. You format the VMU there. Then you change the option again so you can load the game.

Got it Working. Thanks for that

Where is the VMU File Saved?

I assume in RetroArch/system/dc

There are some “VMU_save” files there as well as a data folder with another file. Dunno which one is which though.

I suppose if you backup the whole dc folder you should be fine. Also, keep in mind that you only have to format the VMU once. Then it should work for all games. Don’t format it again when you load a new game, it will erase the saves of your previous games.
