Not seeing all the cores I should be seeing in Windows

Hey all, I just started using RetroArch after downloading it this past weekend, and I’m loving it, but I’m not seeing cores for some systems I’m looking for and that I know RetroArch uses.

I’m using Windows 10 x64 and RetroArch 1.6.9 x64.

Here are the cores that I can see.

  • 2048
  • 3DEngine
  • Arcade (MAME 2003)
  • Atari 2600 (Stella)
  • Atari 7800 (ProSystem)
  • Atari Jaguar (Virtual Jaguar)
  • Atari Lynx (Handy)
  • Cave Story (NXEngine)
  • Game Boy / Game Boy Color (Gambatte)
  • Game Boy / Game Boy Color (TGB Dual)
  • Game Boy Advance (VBA Next)
  • Game Music Emu
  • Minecraft (Craft)
  • MSX (fMSX)
  • NeoGeo Pocket/Color (Beetle NeoPop)
  • NES / Famicom (FCEUmm)
  • NES / Famicom (Nestopia UE)
  • NES / Famicom (QuickNES)
  • Nintendo DS (melonDS)
  • Odyssey2 / Videopac+ (O2EM)
  • PC Engine SuperGrafx (Beetle SGX)
  • PC Engine/PCE-CD (Beetle PCE FAST)
  • PocketCDG
  • Quake 1 (TyrQuake)
  • Rick Dangerous (XRick)
  • Sega MS/GG/MD/CD (Genesis Plus GX)
  • SNES / Super Famicom (Snes9x 2010)
  • Vectrex (vecx)
  • VirtualBoy (Beetle VB)
  • WonderSwan/Color (Beetle Cygne)

I want to know, am I missing something? Like am I supposed to download and install cores manually? Or is the software limiting what I can see based on my hardware or software? Do I need to install frameworks that I don’t have installed? Was I told this somewhere already and just didn’t see a message informing me?

Also, as a sidenote, the Genesis core wasn’t doing anything at all, so I searched forums and found someone who had saved a copy of a Genesis core from a previous version, and I installed that and got it working fine. I’m not opposed to doing it manually, but it seems like RetroArch really wants to keep me in the UI most of the time. Again, am I reading this correctly?
