Note about latest Avast antivirus and Retroarch

Today i installed the latest Avast update (prog + virus definitions). Since then, whenever i start a game in Launchbox which is setup to run under Retroarch, it starts in Paused mode!

I checked the console and i noticed that Retroarch can’t write on the History file (supported by Retroarch 1.41) because it is blocked by Avast.

The solution to this is to run Retroarch As Admin, or to Exclude the Retroarch folder from Avast.

That’s a rather strange for it to be blocked like that. Do you Have RA stored in “Program Files”?

No, it is installed in D: so it was not a problem of protected folders.

After excluding the Retroarch folder in Avast and run a scan of it, so Avast could mark all .exe and .dll files there as safe, it worked normally without needing Admin rights anymore.

I would put it down to overzealous heuristics. I would be bad news for RA to end up on a AV blacklist as it will be a hard time to get it off.

Possibly. I have heuristics on Avast at Normal (default) level.

New Avast was stealing the focus here. Uninstalled that “game mode” in components and rebooted.

Seems fine now.
