OGA devices and "Threaded Video"

Hi

I have noticed that all distros for OGA devices (Odroid Go Advance and clones) have “Threaded Video” ON by default. In fact, I am almost sure Lakka also has “Threaded Video” ON by default on those…

Having tested RetroArch on at least one of those systems, I can see why: performance on these machines seems to be faked by the threaded video, and as soon as I set “Threaded Video” to OFF, PCSX_ReArmed for example shows clear slowdowns. Since the option comes with a warning about causing stuttering and input lag, I was wondering: Is that warning still valid for RetroArch recent versions? (I build RetroArch 1.9.0 stable for these experiments).

Thanks!

Good question. I know the Switch has it on by default, as well. I think it probably has to do with individual drivers and implementations as to whether it’s detrimental or beneficial.

@hunterk Thing is, even some Pi4 distros like Batocera have it ON by default, where on the Pi4 it’s not necessary for anything the machine can move rock-solid without it. But I am still intrigued by how accurate the warning is nowadays, yes.
