P-UAE and WHDLoad games

Hi, i want to know if its possible to run WHDLoad games on P-UAE.

I’m trying and i get “no bootable media found”.

I already configured this on WinUAE and 99.9% of the games work perfect, and the list is huge. They’re in LHA format.

If its not possible, i would like to know if there is a method to run any game o P-UAE.

Thx great community.

Hi, I’m a newbie about RetroArch, but I try to help you anyway: I managed to get the WHDLoad games to run on P-UAE after some try. I found out that the ONLY way the core is able to run these games is after selecting “A1200 (2 MB chip + 8 MB speed)” in the core options menu, assuming you have already obtained the appropriate Kickstart roms, renamed them in the way the core wants them to be and that you put them in the right folder (RetroArch / system). I haven’t touched anything else, since WHDLoad support was already enabled in the core options menu (is set to “files”).

I dunno why the core want such overkill Amiga config and at first I was reluctant because I was afraid that this configuration could generate compatibility or speed issues in games (especially the older ones designed for the Amiga 500 base, which are at least 90% of those produced for the entire Amiga series).

Unexpectedly, I have tried dozens of games “at random” from my collection (3100+ games) and everything works beautifully! (i.e. without apparent difference with an A500, apart from the loading speed - obviously)

I’d like much more to be able to configure the machine in detail (e.g. n. of disk drivers, n. of HDs, exact quantity and type of memory, ecc.)… I don’t believe that a simple A500 base cannot operate an HD (virtual HD make no difference since the entire system is emulated anyway), nor that to do so you must run the latest Kickstarts (needed with A1200+), so I think all this is related to how P-UAE core works. Maybe some expert guy from the forum can enlighten us

According to the official WHDLoad documentation:

Requirements

… to run installed programs:

  • CPU 68000 (68010+ is recommended because some installs require the VBR for the ‘quit by a key’ feature)
  • Kickstart 2.0 (version 37)
  • a minimum of 1.0 MiB RAM (sometimes more, it depends on the installed program)

So the A1200 setup has all of these covered.

I’ve got the Kickstart file in the Kickstart folder under system\amiga… but Reotrarch is telling me that its not found.

I’ve checked some sources and it seems that my configuration’s correct. What could i do?

The kickstart ROMs need to be in system, not system\amiga. For example:

system\kick34005.A500
system\kick37175.A500
system\kick40060.CD32
system\kick40060.CD32.ext
system\kick40063.A600
system\kick40068.A1200

I did that, now I get black screen error and crashing on retroarch.

The files work on Winuae emulator.

Edit: I did the suggestion again and now it works. It could be that they did not copied correctly. Solved! THx!
