PCE Fast core doesn't work with Aracde CD System games. (Standalone Mednafen does)

[QUOTE=Tatsuya79;39634]Try to switch to dsound if possible (settings->driver->audio driver). I don’t have this error with “threaded audio” in my log like you, not sure why that’s here.

(and I’m using cue/OGG too)[/QUOTE]

No visible change.

I also tried to run it on my Android phone. It crashed in the same manner.

Also, how do I make spoiler tags on this forum? [spoiler][/spoiler] doesn’t work.

Turn off rewind  It solves a lot of issues in general

I’m having this exact same problem, went through all the same troubleshooting steps.

Arcade CD-ROM^2 games I just can’t get them to load.

Strider and World Heroes are the ones I’ve tried.

Strider get’s to the dev logo, and instead of it spinning it just freezes. World Heroes just crashes after the bios.

Same confirmed system cards, settings etc. I’ve tried all this. No go.

Windows 10 64-bit.

Would love if we could figure out the cause here.

Hi guys,

I have an rpi3 and I use the recalbox and I can not play any Arcade CD game (ACD)

LIST OF GAMES Battlefield '94 in Tokyo Dome [FCCD4001] Fire Pro Jyoshi - Dome Chojyo Taisen [HMCD 4008] Garou Densetsu II - Aratanaru Tatakai [HCD4060] Garou Densetsu Special [HCD4067] Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire [HCD5080] Janshin Densetsu - Quest of Jongmaster [HECD5016] Mad Stalker - Full Metal Force [HECD4009] Madou Monogatari I - Honou no Sotsuenji [NAPR-1047] Ryuuko no Ken [HCD4061] Strider Hiryuu [NAPR-1041] Tengai Makyo - Kabuki Itouryodan [HCD5070] World Heroes II [HCD4063]

BIOS I discard BIOS problem because I used several BIOS, such as version 3.0 A hack version of 3.0 that already opens the game directly, without the need to appear the bios screen, and version 4.1 derp also made by a hack that includes support for extended memory and supports Medanfen, all games work except Ginga Fukei Densetsu - Sapphire (NTSC-J), that I can see the “loading” for 1/2 second and then back to ES.

MD5 I checked the md5 of the syscard3.pce BIOS 3,0 version file its MD5 is ff1a674273fe3540ccef576376407d1d and is OK. (I test here: http://onlinemd5.com/)

ISO AND CUE FILES I found it to be a problem with the ISO file, I checked the CUE files, I downloaded these games on several sites

ISO Ginga_Fukei_Densetsu_-_Sapphire_(NTSC-J)_[HCD5080].iso renamed Sapphire.iso

I’m not sleeping, downloading iso in every possible way, my last attempt was to convert to OGG, WAVE files and edit the .cue and without success.

I do not even know what else to do.

LOG The strangest thing is that in the log it appears normal, we loaded the ARCADE CARD

RetroArch [libretro INFO] :: MDFN_MakeFName: /recalbox/share/bios/syscard3.pce
RetroArch [libretro INFO] :: Arcade Card Emulation: Enabled

https://pastebin.com/JFX1nDPg

remove all lines that has PREGAP, save and try loading again (use notepad++ to edit the cue sheet)

no working, back in ES. :frowning:

then you have a bad iso file

This is my working cue (on win7 x64), audio is in OGG.

@wertz @Tatsuya79

I decided to redo the cue files, that for some reason the cue files were with some synchronization problem, then I followed the cue available in www.necstasy.net and with the isobuster, I managed to let it work.

thanks for explanation

Cheers, Azvarel

People really should get the good practice in using redump (.cue+.bin files). Where does this .iso come from? GoodTools?

What exactly did you do with the cue information on that site? I tried entering the time-stamps into my cue sheet after converting the game to a bin/cue…

But now I just get a load error, whereas before it would attempt to load the game and then freeze and crash.

I think the issue is that no one of casual use understands where to properly acquire ‘redump’ files.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I pretty much just find whatever I can and test if it works.

I had the same problem of not being able to load Arcade CD System games as well a while back but luckily found a simple solution/workaround. After the MD5 checksums/paths/filenames of all the required files were verified OK I was able to solve the issue by LOADING THE CORE FIRST before loading the content in RetroArch. After that you load the core after again (after loading the content, so 2 times total) and these games will now run as expected after the initial loading screens appear. Hope this works for anyone else encountering this issue. Thanks to Popful Mail’s ability to run in regular & “enhanced mode” that helped me figure this out. Also I have to say these games look stunning and play great in RetroArch configured for 240p using Calamity’s CRT_Emudrivers with an Arcade monitor or a Trinitron CRT…

im surprised that this is still an issue… what games are actually affected by this issue

Also check this thread on Atariage.com for more games that support the Arcade CD System card/syscard3.pce: https://atariage.com/forums/topic/123757-pc-engine-arcade-card-games/

sorry, but i am not really interested to know what are cd arcade games(that can be easily found online). im asking of what are indeed games that having the issue. im asking since i have no problems running arcade cd games using pce bios v3.0 (well, at least for Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire…) but i do know that in retroarch is kinda picky when trying to load some cue formats.

Hi wertz, the “LIST OF GAMES” I quoted azvarel in my previous post are all the games I had the issue with. Once I had changed the order of operations of pre-loading the core first before loading the content , all of them loaded/played fine. Glad to hear Sapphire loaded ok for you straight up and your setup is not affected by this.

just downloaded another arcade cd game from (******.com) and that too runs directly.

can you re test using latest available retroarch and latest core (pce/sgx) and post a log?

Hi wertz, thank you for your help. I was able to confirm in 1.6.9 & 1.7.0 that all of the Arcade CD system games and Arcade CD Enhanced games are now running directly as expected (by loading Content first then choosing/loading the Core after). I tried to check with the current version but for some reason my config file is incompatible with RetroArch v1.7.1 to v1.7.3 so I’ll need to research that some more and post a log in a relevant thread. I also noticed that starting with v1.7.0 the mouse pointer shows up in my 240p rgui menu and can only be closed by hitting F11. RetroArch menu does not remember the setting either so this has to be done every time I load a game.

Thanks again wertz for your help in showing that the OP is not an issue provided you are using good bios and dumps in RA.

You know you can use chd with this emulator, right? And, for god sake, NEVER use american syscards, as they are pretty useless, use japanese syscard3.pce and keep a syscard1.pce in case you want to play (and laugh, and pointing your finger at it) Altered Beast, CD version.

Just fyi, I use chd and pce fast to play all pce cd games on my cellphone, moto z2 with gamepad. All of them works fine, even the arcade card ones.
