I’ve been playing my psx games on retroarch since it got released .However, sound is still not accurate and many sound effects are missing( most noticable in Final Fantasy games). Many updates have improved the sound but it is still incomplete.
Unless the issue is worse in RetroArch than in standalone PCSX-ReArmed it’s mostly an upstream issue
You could report it here -

Notaz doesn’t use the PCSX Reloaded sound driver for performance reasons (since his main target is Pandora). Perhaps you could persuade him to include an audio driver that strives for higher accuracy.
People tend to complain about sound but I still don’t know what exactly is wrong and what should be fixed. What would actually help is a specific list of things that sound wrong and how to get to them ingame so I can reproduce the actual problems, for example:
- FF7: start new game and walk until random battle starts. Use main attack and you get wrong sword slash sound
- …
If something is more than 5 minutes into the game I’ll need a savestate.
There’s actually nothing wrong with the sound. In fact,it is so much better than the sound produced by other psx emus.It is just that in some games(particularly Final Fantasy) some sound effects are not emulated correctly and other sound effects are missing. It would probably be of help if you hear what it really sounds like in an actual console or in youtube videos of the said games.
In FF 7-9, the sound inaccuracy can already be heard at the start screen(when you move the cursor. It also goes true for menus.)The majority of sound effects in battle are emulated a bit inaccurately or have some sound FX missing(When summoning, using magic etc.)
Music is okay, but I still feel that it is still different from what it actually sounds like(probably a lack of reverb?)
Oh and by the way, sound is improving on each revision. Thanks
notaz,I posted an issue on github the list of sound problems but it is incomplete
Just a suggestion, maybe you could add an option to change the sound plug-in
