Possible to access in-game menu without Input Overlay enabled?

… is there a way to do it?

With a PS3 controller connected, I have no need for the controller overlays cluttering the screen, but without it enabled, I can’t seem to be able to access the menu either, and if I press back it exits the game. Is there a way to do this? Alternately, having the input overlay enabled but having it only show the menu button and not the controller buttons?

There will be some solutions for this in the next version - one of them is that it will be possible for the ‘back button’ to go back to the RGUI menu screen. RGUI is a joypad-controlled menu that will allow you to change many aspects of RetroArch and the core on-the-fly including disk swapping, etc.

Ah, nice. It makes more sense for the back and/or settings button to open some sort of on-the-fly menu than just exit back to the rom selection.

I did make myself a simple menu system for my tablet, it’s just a transparent image for the overlay, then menu opens when you touch it anywhere. Only menu items included are save/load and change slots. I think this is the working version, let me know if it isn’t.

Sorry, just noticed a typo in the overlay .cfg, you’ll see one of the overlay_ lines has an O instead of o at the beginning, change it to lower case o and it’ll work fine.
