Possible to run old Win 95/98 games thru Retroarch

Just wondering if there is any way to run older Windows games (Diablo II namely) thru Retroarch so onee can use shaders for these games.

pceem is probably your best bet but I don’t know how well it runs in RetroArch at the moment. I’ve tried to get it up and running in the past but never had any luck.

Ok. Will check it out. Thanx.

If you are using RetroArch on a Windows machine you could also just go with a VM of Windows 95 instead. May have more compatibility success. Below are the links you would need to do it as well as a video describing the process. In the comments for the video it also provides some links to help.

But can vm be used in Retroarch? Diablo II runs fine as it is on my computer (win 8.1). But if I could run it thru Retroarch I could use shaders like nedi as well.

Ahh. I see. Don’t bother with a VM then. I thought you were just trying to run games that would not run on newer versions of Windows.

yes it is possible, depending on what “counts” as a windows 95 game. You can technically run windows 95 on dosbox svn, and dosbox svn has a libretro core.

I’ve done this for windows 3.1 and very simple windows 95 games like “Full Tilt Pinball”

The problem is memory (RAM). Dosbox svn only provides 63 MB of RAM to windows 95, so you get a lot of “Invalid Page Fault” errors if you try to run a more substantial game.

What would really make this possible (to play games like diablo II) is if dosbox-x got a libretro core, since it is far more robust at playing win9x and is exactly what it is built for:
