I just mapped PRBOOM and searched for analog controls, but it doesn’t seem to have any, so, it’s either full speed movement or nothing for this source port?
Do you mean mouse control? The controls in RetroArch quick menu if you click F1 (where the menu pops up to resume, restart and so on) go into “Controls” > “Port 1 Controls” and set Device Type to RetroKyboard/Mouse. Then back to game “ESC” to open up DOOM menu > Options > Setup > Key Bindings. Here you can set the keyboard to move forward in example and the mouse would be to look around in analog.
But if you want to play with gamepad and an analog stick, then I don’t know how to set it up.
It would be mouse movement in general, or analog movement, with proper acceleration, including strafing. GZDOOM provides proper analog controls and sensitivity setting, for instance, but I’m not able to find it in PRBOOM.
This makes all the difference during gameplay, otherwise with a gamepad, everything you do is at 100% acceleration.
I don’t play DOOM with free look, for instance, it’s just moving and looking left/right, I don’t even use the right analog as I play it with the PS1 DOOM layout mostly, the left directional moves forward and looks left/right, L and R is strafing and the face buttons do the actions in general.
I got it working by setting in Quick Menu/Controls/Port 1 Controls to Ganepad Modern.
I thought it was not possible since the core options don’t have specific settings for that.
It’s now perfect for moving around and strafing with proper acceleration, the gameplay feels much better now.
