Pressing "A" or "X" brings up search screen

I come back to RA after 6 months and it still never fails to give me a headache while trying to achieve SIMPLE tasks like configuring a controller.

God knows what happened but whenever I press “A” on the Xbox controller or “X” on the PS4 controller a search screen appears. So after screwing around and Googling to the sun and back, I’m making this thread.

Even deleting the retroarch.cfg entirely made no difference.

After updating to the latest RA on Windows, I still have this problem. Please can anybody assist?

Do you have Steam (or any other program that hijacks inputs) open?

Yes I normally have Steam running. Closing Steam made no difference.

There used to be a line in the retroarch.cfg in the hotkey section that had gamepad input set for search. I couldn’t ever disable it, but I remember setting it to a number high enough that it didn’t co-respond to anything on my controller. I can’t seem to find that hotkey or config line anymore though.

Okay I went to the extremes and did a complete uninstall / fresh install. Working fine now.
