Quasi-widescreen hack via HUD cropping + external display

If found many old games have HUDs that takes significant part of the screen. Cropping them out would result in a quasi-widescreen image (depending on the size of the HUD). Some examples:

So i am looking for a solution to crop and view the HUD on secondary display (even a smartphone would be good).

I think there are a few ways to do this, but none of them are great. The easiest would probably be to take a dual-monitor setup and tell Windows that they’re positioned one on top of the other, then run the game in windowed mode with the HUD part on the “top” screen and the rest on the “bottom” screen.
