Question about PSX core and multi-disk

Is it true that you can’t run multi-disk games for PSX through a frontend like Hyperspin or GameEX?

I was reading something in the documentation about needing to make some sort of playlist to run multidisk games? Why is that exactly? Why doesn’t the disk run as a single disk, why need a playlist with all the cue files in it?

Just curious.

If you don’t create the playlist file, Mednafen will create separate memory card files per disc. So when you move to disc 2, your save won’t carry over unless you rename the first disc’s save to match disc 2’s filename. If you use a playlist file, all discs will share a memory card file named after the playlist file.

Does it? does the memcard name change on disc change when appending? the savefile name is set on initialization so I wouldn’t think this would happen

But I agree, m3u is the preferred route.

I’m not sure if it stays the same or not when appending. But if you launch each disc separately from another frontend you’ll get a memcard file per disc.

Well, that’s good info, but doesn’t exactly fix my issue. My issue is that any game I have that is multi-disk simply doesn’t start. Checked .bin and .cue files, and everything’s in order. So I’m not sure what the problem is.

Have you tried running the disc from retroarch? Also what core are you using?

I feel like an idiot, it runs fine outside of the frontend. I will now go take it up with them. lol

Okay, so, apparently it has to do with the fact that my all my PSX games are compressed with 7z. So, I guess my question is (again, just purely for curiosity) why would a single disk game work, but not a game with multiple disks?

Im having the same problem if anyone can answer… Retroarch works for all emulators except ps1 when I’m using the GAMEEX frontend…anyone know how to get this to work? Thansk
