Recommended Gamepad

Hi!

First post (this is probably in the wrong section). I use RetroArch on my stock Nexus 10. Which gamepad works the best with my current setup?

I tried the Nyko Playpad, but it apparently has issues with Android 4.2.

Thanks in advance for the help

There should be a lot of them that work equally well. Do you need wireless/bluetooth or is wired okay? If you have a PS3 controller or a Wiimote+Classic Controller, they both do a good job (though I think they need helper programs rather than working directly).

I don’t care if it’s wireless or not I just want one that will work well. My understanding is that the PS3 controller will only work on a rooted device with an additional app. Is this not true?

A PS3 pad will work fine over USB without any extra software.

You will need the Sixaxis app if you want to use it over bluetooth

Sorry, but what’s that got to do with android :stuck_out_tongue:

So I assume I would need to buy some type of adapter for my ps3 controller if I wanted to do USB…

Sounds like sixaxis may be the way to go

EDIT: Do I have to root my tablet to do this?

As long as you have a full size USB port on your tablet, you don’t need any adapter, just the mini usb lead that comes with the Dual Shock / Six Axis. If you only have a mini or micro USB, then yeah you would need the right adapter / cable.

Also, I’m pretty sure that PS3 gamepads are supported on ICS and JellyBean, So no root needed

I think you need to be rooted if you want to use the pad over bluetooth, using the “Sixaxis Controller” app from the playstore.

Yes, it has a mini-USB port on the back: http://www.expressgamers.com/768-3506-thickbox/usb-wired-dualshock-3-control-pad-for-ps3-pc-.jpg

You need a USB cable that matches that port and the port on your Android device. No USB cable is included in the package when you buy the controller separately, at least not where I come from. A cable should be pretty cheap though if you don’t already have one lying around.

Nexus 10 doesn’t have a full-sized USB port, so you’ll need a USB otg cable, like this one

But yeah it will work without root or any additional apps. Just plug it in and press the PS button. root & the sixaxis app are only required if you want to use it wirelessly.
