Recommended Handheld

Hi, just want to know if there is a recommended handheld to run RetroArch. I have give up my dreams of playing C64 or DOS games on the go, but I think portable and some 8bit consoles are still possible, or even FBNeo.

I have a PiBoy DMG but have had a better experience using a clip-on gamepad and a moderately powered Android phone.

Right now that is my current setup at home: an 8BitDo controller with an Android tablet.
