Remove, delete or hide cores i dont want to use

Hi i,m new here

I dont know if this is the place to ask or there is already a topic for this but;

I love the Retroarch but it got a lot of cores i’m totally not interested in, is there a way to hide them, delete or remove them from the list?

I’m a total Noob sorry about this question

Android ? Rooted ? If so navigate to /data/data/org.retroarch/lib/ and delete the core.so files you don’t want/use with a root file manager. Root explorer app or a free alternative like File manager.

yuck i hate to root devices, im Always afraid i destroy my device

Is there a noob guide to root a Ouya?

Will this remove them from the list when you open retroarch then or will the list remain the same but just not work for the cores you remove?

Yeah it will remove them from the list i think, ive never tried tbh. Was info from the android thread, someone suggested that way to delete unused cores.

I suppose another method that dont need root is to get the .apk file and open it as an archive in zarchiver > then open the ‘lib’ folder then open the armeabi-v7a folder and delete the core.so files you dont want.

You should now be able to install your CustomLite .apk

Edit: just tried and works and removes them from the list after installing the .apk

I dont see the big deal with having some unused cores.

Would be interesting if retroarch eventually supported pulling in cores over a web service to the application.

  1. Don’t have to worry about the size limitations on the play store, and give the application some “growing” room
  2. People can pick and choose what cores they are actually interested in
  3. Save some space on the phone’s internal memory(even if it’s minor)

It would be an idea yeah to support something like setting up ‘repos’ from where libretro cores could be pulled from.

However, we might only start considering that once the pool of libretro cores starts growing so large that we might start running into size issues again, which really, another ScummVM and another Mupen64 and maybe some more game cores and we are already nearing the 50MB limit.

Thanx Snes80 it worked with the zarchiver app

Cool :wink:

Thats so weird i did what Snes80 said (the Zarchiver method) on an Xperia play and copied the APK to the OUYA and it works perfect, but if i try to play some games on the Xperia play it crashes every time i load a game…

What am i doing wrong?

All my other issues are fixed now but i got another problem:

When i delete all the cores that i dont want and install the program everything just fine, but it suddenly updates itself and i got all the cores back.

I can turn of my internet but some of my apps need those

Is there a way i can stop those auto updates?

@jefreyvaneerde1980

thnx hunterk

^ by not updating you will miss out on important fixes and new features.

Turn off auto updates, but when you see a new update available… get the .apk file again and remove unwanted cores.
