Two suggestions:

Allow settings to be changed by pressing a button, disabling the d-pad left/right behavior. I find I can occasionally change settings while navigating the XMB. Sometimes, I don’t realize it until later, perhaps much later. This is already the behavior for certain menu items, such as those at the XMB top level, or those which open a sub-menu. Therefore, requiring button activation everywhere would improve UI consistency.

Press a button to reset a particular setting back to its default. When experimenting with a setting, one may forget the “safe” default option. I think it’s possible to reset or delete ALL customizations globally, but there are so many configuration options in RA that this possibly means erasing hours of effort.
