Retroarch 0.9.7 problem

Hi

I use multiman 4.10 under rogero 4.30, my problem is located in the use of the retroarch 0.9.7 emulator. (sorry for my bad english)

Everything works on the first try (fbanext/snes9x/genplusgx), and then in the following test, the problem appears with my snes games that doesn’t work.

Retroarch display a black screen at the launch, but I can still access the R3 menu. And there, at the top of the screen, instead of “Snes9x”, I see “VBAnext”…

Retroarch loads a gameboy core to run my snes roms… The only way is to remove and then reinstall retroarch.

So, to not uninstall each time, I thought solve the problem simply by removing the “retroarch.cfg” file for reset the emul at next startup. But it has no effect, I don’t understand.

The problem is the damn core “VBAnext”. I can’t find it in the .pkg… Would you have a solution ?

Thanks

Have you tried ‘switching’ to the SNES9x Next core in the R3 Ingame Menu?

BTW, if you remove the retroarch.cfg file - it will never save a ‘default core’ that you selected - so I wouldn’t recommend this at all. You need to simply switch over to the SNES9x Next core and then ‘cleanly exit’ by selecting ‘Quit Game’ from the XMB - that way, the settings will be saved to the config file.

Thanks for your help

What you mean “switching” ? I have tried “change” the core :

I launch the snes rom >> black screen In R3 ingame menu (“VBAnext” at the top of screen), I change the core > “change libretro core” > “snes9x.self” >> black screen freeze

The only way is to switch off the ps3

Quit game for cleanly exit, this is always what I do (if I can) Why VBAnext ? I don’t understand And no problem for genesis and arcade games, good core at the top of R3 menu screen

Have you tried pete_uk’s unofficial RetroArch 0.9.8 beta release?

http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threads/3785-Unofficial-RetroArch-Builds-UPDATED-30-11-12-0-9-8-BETA3

Does it produce the same problems?

On 0.9.8 beta 3 release, update request for snes9x version and I don’t know how to

After reinstall 0.9.7, no problem at first try :

snes9x ok > genplusgx ok > fbanext ok > snes9x fail vbanext > fba/gen ok Other cycle : genplusgx ok > snes9x ok > fbanext ok > genplusgx fail vbanext > fba/snes ok

No problem with fbanext, never

I can try to edit something manually, .cfg file or other ? Even if it’s not practical it could be a solution for my problem Or a way to disable useless core, exept fba/snes/gen, If I delete the files in the .pkg, what do you think ?

Sounds like at some specific point the exitspawn function fails - which is supposed to boot a different EBOOT.BIN (aka another libretro core).

I wouldn’t advise you to start screwing around with the retroarch.cfg file - that ‘switch libretro core’ option should be guaranteed to work, and if it doesn’t then something must be wrong somewhere that might either involve your PS3’s CFW or some odd quirk it produces to do with the exitspawn system call.

Anyway, I would still recommend you install that beta version of RetroArch 0.9.8 and let me know if you experience any of the same problems or not - SNES9x version be damned. If it asks you to overwrite - just say ‘yes’.

Same problem on 0.9.8 b3 :

genplusgx ok > fbanext ok > genplusgx fail (“snes9xnext” at the top of R3 menu) When I tried to change the core > “change libretro core” > “genesisplusgx.self” > black screen freeze

I could not test snes9x, it ask me to update - then, I clik “ok” to confirm… and nothing, return to mm I don’t know how to update snes emulator in retroarch

I don’t know what to do

Sorry, but I don’t really know what you’re talking about - I coded nothing in RetroArch PS3 that asks you to ‘update’ - it must be something from Multiman or something that happens in the XMB, because I sure as hell did not code such a thing.

I also don’t get why ‘exitspawning’ (which is what you’re doing switching cores) would crash for you.

‘genplusgx ok > fbanext ok > genplusgx fail (“snes9xnext” at the top of R3 menu)’

What do you mean by this? Please explain in more elaborate detail - what are you doing? Starting Genesis Plus GX first - then FBA Next (umm, do you mean ‘FBAlpha’? because ‘FBA Next’ is no more - you’re not using that outdated emulator port by me still do you?) - then what? Starting Genesis Plus GX again and it fails? ‘then why does it say snes9x next’ at the top?

Can you record a video instead where this happens? That might clear things up.

I’ll ask around (deank, doobz) and see if they have similar problems. So far deank has said he hasn’t really run into these kinds of problems.

OK I gave up retroarch

Now, I use fbanext r487, snes9x 4.4.9 and genplusgx 1.5

All re-signed 4.30 by me, and everything works !

I made all those ports - you get that ,right?

They’re a year old, they contain quite significant bugs (gameplay-wise) and they’re not worth using anymore - and I won’t ever support it or do updates. RetroArch is better in every way and I’m sorry if you can’t be bothered to provide decent bug reports and help me out with nailing down a bug - what you’ve given me so far in terms of bug reports isn’t worth wiping my arse with to be very plain and honest with you - how do you expect me to fix something by explaining it so poorly and not even giving me a video or screenshots to show what you’re doing so that I could perhaps ‘understand’ what it is exactly you’re doing and try to reproduce it? I can’t even reproduce what you’re telling me - do you understand that?

Anyway, if you don’t care, I don’t care either. It works fine on my debug PS3.
