RetroArch crashing on iOS 8 with iPad Air

I was using RetroArch on my unjailbroken iPad Air with the latest iOS 7 and all was well. But when I updated to iOS 8 yesterday, RetroArch wasn’t usable anymore. =( I can launch RA, select the core and the ROM, but when I launch the game, I’m thrown back to the Springboard. I was using a version that I compiled with my Xcode license that worked great until then.

I uninstalled RA, reset the iPad, re-installed it and the problem didn’t go. I tried to unZIP some ROMs but no luck either. I then fetched the latest RA version in Github (mine was old, dating from dec 2013) and recompiled it with Xcode 5 and got about the same results.

My next step will be to wait for the official version of Xcode 6 then try a recompile but if anyone has a solution that could work, I would be grateful to hear it.

Thanks

I updated to iOS 8 on my unjailbroken iPhone 5S and my RetroArch (1.0.0.2) IPA signed with my developer sig is still working.

What core/emulator are you trying to run? I’ve tried FCUEmm (NES), SNES9x Next (SNES) and Picodrive (Genesis) and it works.

PCSX-ReArmed doesn’t work for me, and it didn’t work before (maybe it’s a dynarec core? not sure).

I haven’t tried compiling a new version of RetroArch yet - i have most of the cores compiled in Xcode 6 but I haven’t tried a new build yet.

Just tried compiling and running the latest master.

I was able to get it to run but the overlays don’t show up and i can’t get the cores to run anything

After recompiling the latest version, I tried only the various SNES emulators (BSNES and SNES9X). When I start the app, I can see the 8-bit style green menu and can go back to the core / ROM selection. It’s just when I start the emulation that the app closes. Once, and only once, a ROM started with SNES9X but I couldn’t find the settings for my 8-Bitty pad so I know that this is not a code signing problem.

Since your RA versions were compiled with Xcode 6, I think that I have good chances that it will work when I install it.

Tried with the official Xcode 6 and still no go. Some cores don’t compile, those who do aren’t working. The interface of RA works OK but the app crashes when launching a game. Anyone has RetroArch working on an iPad Air with iOS8?

Same result for me - couldn’t get all cores to compile, but those that do don’t actually work in the app itself.

Looks like there’s still work to be done to make the iOS build functional again - as of right now, the master branch is broken :frowning:
