Retroarch doesn't respond AND crashes when i closes it

so i’m trying to run retroarch, i did EVERYTHING really… you can look at my thread from windows section to see where ive started… really i’m all out of ideas basically i’m using now windows 64bit and retroarch build from here >

ive even copyed the cores and everything

problem for me now… is that i’m starting up retroarch it opens the retroarch window and gets stuck on that… nothing that i do makes it respond the menu doesn’t open, the roms are like running but then you don’t really see anything on screen and when i close retroarch it crashes

i’m really all out of ideas in this stage it drives me crazy…

*when i change the menu driver to something else and saves it it kinda always go back to rgui after i run retroarch

i would do a log but i don’t know how to output one…

To get a log, you need to launch from a command line (shift-right-click in the RA folder and choose ‘open command window here’) like this: retroarch.exe --menu --verbose >> log.txt 2>&1 The reason your settings aren’t sticking is because it’s crashing when it closes. RetroArch writes your settings to the cfg file when it exits, so if it crashes, those settings never get written.

Lets just pick a thread and stick with it until we get you fixed up so we don’t sprinkle the same issue over a bunch of different threads.

I’m not seeing any errors in that log, either. Did you get a crash and/or try to launch any ROMs there? If not, do that and post a new log.

If so, and it’s still not showing anything useful in the log, I think you’ll need to run it through a debugger to get a stack trace. Download this application: ftp://ftp.equation.com/gdb/snapshot/64/gdb.exe put it in your RA folder and, from a command line, type: gdb.exe retroarch.exe it will bring up a gdb prompt where you can type: run This will start retroarch and you can do whatever you usually do to provoke a crash, then type into the gdb prompt: bt and then copy your results here (a screenshot may be the easiest way to do so).

Can you try changing the video_driver back to “gl” in your retroarch.cfg and do the gdb thing again?

Ok, the problem there is that it’s trying to load Excite Bike 64 (USA).zip as your libretro core, which isn’t going to work, obviously :stuck_out_tongue:

ye but i’m not running it through hyperspin … just running it alone as is…going inside the folder and actually running it… what can i do next ? pls i soo much want to fix it…

Choose the actual core library…? It sounds like everything is functioning properly and now it’s just a matter of using it properly. If you’re launching normally now, just go in and pick your core then go to ‘load content’ and load your game.

There are several options for NES but I recommend Nestopia (nestopia-libretro.dll). For N64, you would use Mupen64Plus (mupen64plus-libretro.dll).

It says it can’t access the video driver. You aren’t trying to do this over remote desktop, by chance, are you? Other than that, it looks correct to me. Have you tried NES games yet?

Ok, so we know that most things are working, now we just need to pin down what’s up with N64. Can you try to unzip one of your ROMs and run it? Compression shouldn’t matter but it’s one less thing to go wrong.
