Retroarch in 240p on CRT TV

Hi guys!

I recently found a nice CRT consumer TV (a Bang & Olufsen mx7000), and I’d really like to build a pc to play retro games with Retroarch on it. As I understand it, to get the best picture possible the TV will need to get a 240p RGB signal (it’s a PAL model with scart inputs).

Any suggestions as to how I should approach this? Should I get one of those Arcade VGA 5000 from Ultimarc and a VGA to Scart adapter? Or can an HDMI signal be “downgraded” to what I need through some sort of converter? And finally, are there any settings or other stuff in Retroarch I’d have to be mindful of?

Appreciate any input:)

In linux, it’s easy to get a 240p signal that can be adapted to SCART. That’s a little more difficult in Windows, but you can look into crt-emudriver.

Thanks for replying guys!

Thing is, I really don’t want to do the Raspberry Pi thing… I hate the very computer-like text and messages that pop up before you launch a game, I’d like the system to be like a console: when you launch a game the screen goes black, and then the game comes on, just like it would be on a retro console. Also, it seems the Raspberry Pi is a little to weak for N64 and Playstation.

Does anybody know if the method I outlined above, Arcade VGA 5000 -> vga to scart cable -> tv would be a good solution?

I’m not sure the ArcadeVGA does anything beyond what any old AMD card and crt-emudriver can do. I would suggest looking into it before pulling the trigger either way, but yeah, ArcadeVGA should be fine.

I can assure you that with Lakka you won’t see a single line of computer-like text when a game launches or it goes back to the Frontend. (For console games) You’re right, the Raspi is a bit to weak for N64, but most Playstation Games run fine (on a Raspi3)

Ah, I see, that’s a valuable tip, I’m not familiar with Lakka… seems interesting, although I think I’d still prefer a Launchbox -> Retroarch setup. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Lakka seems like it doesn’t have a front end, just plain Retroarch, and with Retropie you het the console text and messages before launchong games…
