RetroArch iOS release (v1.0.0.1)

New version today. This should fix a couple of serious regressions that popped up in the VBA Next core.

  • [VBA Next] Fixes serious regressions - most evident in Golden Sun games - battle screens etc.
  • [VBA Next] Add a core option to change the control button layout from (left to right) B to A to (left to right) A to B.

bug repo?though have noticed that the NXEngine annouced that have fixed the save ?les not working problem since the 0.9.8?also read NOTES Savestates are not hooked up - therefore rewind is also not possible.but I still have the same problem when I use the 0.9.9.5. device?touch5 ios6.1.2jailbroken.when save the state,the file doesn’t appear.

I’m experiencing the same problem. Not save states, I know that those don’t work in cave story. But the actual in game save system doesn’t work on iOS. Whenever I get to a save point in the game it says ā€œgame savedā€ but the save doesn’t appear when I try to load, it just starts me from the beginning of the game. I’ve tried this on both iPhone 5 jb 6.1.2 and iPad 2 jb 6.1.2.

The usual iOS permission problems in your Cave Story folder/files.

right.also find a simple way:just put the all Cave Story folders into the VAR/MOBILE/APPLICATIONS/RETROARCH/DOCUMENTS and solved.

another question:modelviewer and scenewalker,what are they and how they works?

Demonstration cores which use libretro GL to display 3D models. They don’t have much practical purpose.

They let you load and explore 3D models+textures. Models needs to be in OBJ format and textures need to be TIFF or PNG, IIRC.

ModelViewer lets you zoom, rotate, etc., while SceneWalker has some simple geometry/collision detection for walking around within the model. XNALara models and scenes are usually compatible, though you’ll have to convert the textures if they’re in DDS format by default.

Thanks for the tip! I finally got it working. For anyone else, I used this guide http://www.iapphacks.com/jailbreaking-f13/how-to-set-file-permissions-using-ifile-on-jailbroken-idevic-t10719.html And changed the permission. Great stuff! many thanks guys!

I’m trying all shaders on PCSX ReARMed but so far none is playable in the 4S. I just want reduce the aliasing a little :D.

Is there a plan to implement something like pete’s psx gpu plugins?

Shader/GPU performance on a 4S is probably way too weak.

PCSX ReARMed uses an exclusive (and superior) GPU plugin - Exophase NEON GPU renderer - like Drastic though, it is software-rendered (though still fast).

I was referring pete’s psx gpu plugin because it manage to render the edges improving the game aspect a little. And it was very much performance friendly in very old pcs. At least the old 1.77 version :D. I’m sure some people enjoy the pixelated aspect of this games remaining true to the original experience.

Other thing it would be nice if the UI would remember the last selected file like in the shader options or in the overlay files. Everytime i want to try a new shader i have to go through all of them again and again.

And lastly 0.9.9.6 version is not remembering the ā€œAspect Rationā€ configuration. Mine is set to ā€œFill screenā€ but i have to reselect it on every load. Is configured in Global and in some Cores too. Permissions are all fine too.

That plugin was never opensourced - and really, HLE OpenGL emulation is very inaccurate - I’d rather have a software renderer than that.

And on a powerful machine (like iPad 4/Shield) you can just run every game with NEON enhanced resolution turned on at fullspeed which will give you graphics that are in my opinion better looking than the stuff you can get with Pete’s GPU plugin. Software rendered simply has fewer glitches and seams around sprites and the like (and there’s plenty of other GL artefacts I can think of that always puts me off whenever I play games with a HLE GL plugin).

I could never stomach the high-res polygons alongside pixellated menu/HUD elements. I much prefer native res+scanlines/shaders for consistency, if nothing else.

That said, @pralima87, if not even scanlines shaders work fullspeed for you, you could try a scanline overlay from the overlay thread.

What is that ā€œNEON enhanced resolutionā€?

not a bug report just asking for help. Set up the files in documents via ifunbox. Created a directory (SegaCD). Put US bios file named bios_CD_U in the same directory as game bin. And when selecting a bin file it gives me the limited permissions warning saying some cores will not function. Select Genes… and it fails to load game.

I’m on 6.0.1 fully unteathered jailbreak.

How is n64core doing? :slight_smile:
