RetroArch stops running when monitor turned off

Monitor is connected over DisplayPort

Device is a PC running Windows 10

I have tried turning off “don’t run in background,” but the setting does not appear to affect this behavior.

This also doesn’t seem to affect any other apps or games of any sort.

Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

I ended up using an HDMI dummy plug, which solved the issue. I’m still not sure why this affected RetroArch and ONLY RetroArch.

For anyone who may come upon this: buy an HDMI dummy plug and, in Windows’ display settings, tell the OS to only use your primary monitor. This will ensure the OS doesn’t work differently, but the GPU won’t go to sleep.

It’s the same on Linux. When the xorg dpms turns the screen off, retroarch freezes and doesn’t come back.
