RetroArch Wii/Gamecube Releases (v1.0.0.2)

Check the compatibility list on post #313 on previous page. Also, google FBA roms and go to the first result. Easy :).
Thanks nakata6790, I´ll check that list out to see how many roms work on my Gamecube. Also thank you both nakata6790 and Slappy for the link, but the FBA roms I already have are from that site, the matter was that needed to know if the actually work on wii to make a comparison between the wii compatibility list and the ones that also work on Gamecube. Again thanks for your support :- )
If your using the fba core then you will find only the smallest roms will work (ie Wonderboy, Kung Fu Master)

Thats because all the combined drivers take up too much GameCube memory.

Until someone tackles the problem the second best method is splitting the fba core up into individual drivers like over at

http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1222

In that way games like TMNT,Parodius and Gradius 2 (slowdown) do work on GameCube.

Finally got mission packs working on tyrquake thanks Pete_UK from ps3 forum.

Just wondering if it is possible to disable rgui on the Wii like you can on android? So pressing home button in game will return you to loader not rgui.

You mean something like configurable ‘back button behavior’ but then for the Wii?

Yes that’s exactly what I mean. Is that possible? I don’t want to see the rgui . If all the games I want to play work as I want them to I would rather that home button just exits retroarch and goes back to the loader . I like to run emulators through wiiflow on Wii and other loaders on other consoles and I have mine setup with a cover flow I would rather return to that than rgui. If it is not possible can I compile my own version with no GUI ?

We can setup an option in RGUI for ‘Back behavior’ so that the ‘Home button’ would take you back to ‘SYS_Loader’ or something ye. This way it wouldn’t break it either for people who want to use RGUI or people who don’t.

Awesome. Would I need to compile it myself or will that option be in the next rev maybe?

If you are taking suggestions could I ask is there any plans to include a core for beebem (bbc emulator)? I ask because the bbc was one of my first computers and also one of the first systems I programmed on and when it comes to my old computers I’m overly nostalgic :). I also read something about about work being done on a VICE core and was wondering if that is true and if so will it include support for VIC20 (also one of my first computers). I only ask about a beebem core because outside of pc’s (windows, unix, linux) and mac os that emulator has only been ported to 2 consoles as far as I’m aware; the ps2 and psp. I’ve tried it on those consoles and it is good but I would love to be able to play repton on my wii,ps3 or my android/ios phone.

@Squarepusher I just read the bug report forum and i it you were having quite a long discussion with a user called jmckutchin who continually ruded you over an issue with the wii power button. I would just like to say that I am completely happy with the way retroarch works on all systems (only the issue with the quake packs was annoying me but I understand that case sensitivity is to be expected when porting from linux/unix). My earlier request was perhaps a little blunt and I apologise because I totally respect the libretro project and whatever you guys vision of the future is I am sure it will be awesome. I only urge you to please not neglect the long forgotten about systems that were awesome in their own way

Could you provide the specifics on the fix? A lot of people were having the same issue and it might be something simple with the setup that everyone shares.

Hello, guys!

Did you have already any discussion about the DIP Switches/configs of CPS1, CPS2, NeoGeo and some FBA Arcade (mame) games?

Is there a way to change the default LEVEL 4 difficult in Samurai Shodown, for example?

Regards, C.

Yes, press the Home button after starting the game, choose Core Options, toggle Diagnostics to Enabled and exit RGUI by pressing the Home button again. This will take you to the dip switch settings where you can change difficulty etc. Needed for SNK Boss Syndrome!

Ha ha ha!

Thank you sooo much, Charco!

@MaSSiVeRiCaN

Rename all your PAK files to upper case and rename all your mission pack folders rogue and hipnotic to lower case. This allows it to work on PS3/Wii/PC/XBOX and Android.

Guess the fba sets were updated yet again sometime recently which stopped my COTA rom to stop functioning. Simply dling the latest version of the rom got it back to working.

also, the quake mission packs never gave me a problem, works fine

Yes, we are constantly updating against FBA bleeding-edge SVN - and they keep up with the latest MAME ROMsets.

Absolutely amazing work on this emulator. Really astounding! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for it.

I do have a question about Turbo CD using the Mednafen PCE core. I have the syscard bios, properly named, in every spot I can think of that would make a Turbo CD game run: root of SD card, in SD:/Apps/retroarch-wii, in SD:/retroarch, in SD:/retroarch/PC-Engine (the roms are stored there), in SD:/apps/retroarch-wii/additional-files…

I have an English-translated version of Akumajou Dracula X as an iso + wav + cue + toc format (oddly there are two isos, one with English text, one with Japanese text. English is Track 02, Japanese is track 22. TOC is an extra file that may not do anything, but it’s there just in case - it’s supposed to operate with the WiiEngine emulator). The .cue lists the tracks all entirely correctly.

When I try to boot the .cue in Retroarch under the PCE core, it throws a DSI exception error / Stack Dump and reboots to the Homebrew Channel. I don’t really have a way to show the actual DSI exception screen unfortunately, but might you have an idea of what caused this? There’s no clear instructions for operating Turbo CD within the PCE core in Retroarch, although instructions exist for the Mednafen application itself.

Thank you for your time and patience!

EDIT: I have attempted to load the game by deleting the English track iso. DSI exception. Tried the opposite, deleting the Japanese track iso. DSI exception as well.

EDIT 2: Tried a different ISO / WAV / CUE set, which is also Akumajou Dracula X. It also has two ISO tracks, which I’m convinced might be standard among rips of this game. Also gave me a DSI exception.

EDIT 3: Also happens with a full ISO / CUE dump that has the sound files built into the single ISO

FINAL: It appears to happen with every Turbo CD game I try. :frowning:

Change the .wav files to .bin and also do that in the cue file, and in the cue file where it says WAVE change that to BINARY. Leave the two iso files there untouched. after you make those changes load the cue file and the game will work fine.

Nope, no dice. Changing audio to .bin format? I tried it but… I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before.

You could try converting your ISO/WAV to BIN/CUE by using Daemon Tools to mount the CUE file to a virtual drive, then use ImgBurn to create a BIN/CUE image file from that virtual disc drive.

Tried, same error. I’m starting to think this is bios or emulator related. I’m absolutely sure I have the correct bios, but even with all my placements I may have missed the correct destination.

Question for Devs:

Is it possible (or feasible) to provide support to the custom screen size config setting to be saved per game basis? I ask this on behalf of the FBA (Mame) games. Most of them differ on their native screensizes and, when I “fix” one, I break “another”. Simple example ~ Gun.Smoke and Green Beret, it’s very easy to correct their resolutions, but fixing one, breaks the other. For people who use Point Filtering its very very easy to notice the visual artifacts when the game is scrolling in a wrong screen size. At same time, in CPS1, CPS2 and other cores, we don’t have any problems, since all games run at same screen resolution.

I am asking just out of curiosity, of course. Even is this is not possible, or not from interest of the general public, this emulator is already a BLESS. It’s simple amazing! I never thought I could be one day able to play Shadow Dancer using my SNES original pad in my Wii!
