Retroarch Wii Wishlist

Because why not, right? What are you guys wishing is included in the next release of Retroarch or in a release down the line? Here’s mine:

  • Resolution Saving. This is probably at the top of my list now. With scanline overlays and point filtering, I just can’t go back to the default retroarch settings.
  • Implementation of Vague Rant’s optimal video settings (aka an easy button). Sort of a continuation of the first item. I’d love to see every emulator default to Vague Rant’s optimal video settings. It’s pretty much the same as what’s used on Virtual Console games, too.
  • The hanging button bug. I know, I know. But I’d still love to see it get squashed.
  • Independent resolution for RGUI. Is this even possible? Taking the resolution off 480p has a negative effect on RGUi, leaving many of the menu selections cut off.
  • Wii Remote Power Button Support. I know it was taken out a couple releases ago, but I still miss it. Using GenPlus GX over the past couple days reminds me why.

What about everyone else?

I’d like to add just one:

  • High Score saving, like in PC emulators. This is really important for replayability I think.
  • These.

  • Also, I’d love to see the missing cores from the Android release added to the Wii release (performance permitting) like: Stella, Handy and MAME 2003 (by splitting the core on a per driver basis to run more games).

  • New MSX core and Vectrex core

  • Virtual memory use for larger Neo Geo games! (dreaming for sure)

For the win.

Actually it is better because it’s ‘exactly’ like the original console and unless there’s a huge difference(like n64, neogeo) Nintendo/VC people don’t seem to care.

It is possible, force 640x480 on the rgui and change when the game loads/resumes; VC, Genesis Plus GX and others also support this. The RA people are against reso changing so I doubt they’ll consider it.

As for the things I’d like to see: -overlay0_full_screen implemented and that it works on any resolution, i.e. simple borders! -choose a "viWidth = " per config, when handling so many consoles, the user should decide how wide the screen should look. -make input safer, I’ve accidentally locked myself out various times just trying to change some keys. -make more inputs possible to map, e.g. Wii reset button and power button. -*OGG support mainly for pce_fast.

And things I’d like to see but are a bit more complicated: -*2x rendering + bilinear = sharper output (Minimal performance hit, and only really useful for GBA) -*virtual memory, plainly out of curiousity, I want to see how performance would be from an SD card though and not NAND. -arguments + turning off rgui + control everything by a text file per rom = VC replacement. -*Gambatte is not outputting real colors which is annoying if you’re aiming for a certain palette. -*Motion blur! At least for gambatte. -*make neopop usable again. -change viewport size/position for 240p? I’ve seen the VC doing this with a certain SNES game, but this is useful for giving handheld cores 240p support for whatever reason.

That’s all I can think of, I’m not sure if args are already possible for WiiFlow plugins, it’s a fun idea nonetheless. *core specific. About 2x bilinear: When dealing with 608x480, the highest you can scale is somewhat small so you’re left with using bilinear if you want to fill your screen, but the fine details of the GBA screen end up muddy and blurry something that’s much less noticeable on, say, the GB color. This is why ‘sharp bilinear’ or ‘2x bilinear’ is the best option.
