Retroarch won't add my roms but will play them if I select manually

Currently I am trying to get my n64 roms to show up in my library but retroarch won’t add them. If I select them manually and tell it to automatically detect core, the games play. The roms are in z64 format. Do I need to convert them to n64 format? If so how can I do it? Renaming doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried downloading 1 n64 version of a game and it worked, but it’s the same rom only for the extension difference.

Any help is appreciated.

The scanning is based on checksums from the No-Intro collections. If they don’t come from those sets, they won’t be recognized.

Somewhat related: I think the z64/n64 thing denotes endianness, so just changing the extension may not be advised.
