Retropi: trouble with input devices

Hi, I recently installed retropi on my Pi 4. But I am having problems with the input. I got a keyboard and a Gravis Gamepad/SNES like controller attached, both via USB. While navigating the menus input methods switch between both all the time. (well ncurses seem to be keyboard only) and when I start a C64 game (well, my favorite bubble bobble), input does not work at all.

any ideas how to fix this?

have you tried pressing ā€˜scroll lock’ to enter ā€œgame focus modeā€? That will forward all of your keyboard functions directly to the core, which is important for classic computer cores.

No, havent. Will try, thanks.

also, C64, depending on games, will require the joystick to be on a specific port (1 or 2).

In Vice you can swap port by:

Quick Menu -> Core Option -> Input -> Joystick Port -> 1 or 2

There should be some hotkeys to do it but I don’t recall them :sweat_smile:

Well, I already fail at closing the emulator (select-start doesn’t work any more). No idea how to open the menu.

now idea why basic control is so difficult. isn’t there any quick start guide that explains exactly these basic moves?

Scroll lock does not light the LED, so no idea if it works. It’s via FN key on this f*g keyboard. Should try another.
