ROMs. Recommended download location?

Hey guys,

Im completely new with the whole game emulators and everything. Ive managed to have a work Lakka system on my NUC but this is where i get confused.

First of all, obviously i need to get some ROMs to play but I havent the slightest idea where to get ROMs that are up to date/work with Lakka. Im sure I could try my luck on torrent websites and what not but I was hoping you guys might be able to point me in the right direction if you know of a better source.

Second, I noticed that in the content downloader, you can appear to download the emulators. For example, I download “PSXTEST.EXE”. Now im not 100% sure on if this is the correct way to go about it but do i need to do this for all emulators I choose to use (ie, Super Nintendo, etc)

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys

Talking about ROMsites is against the forum rules.

Look for “no intro” and “redump” sets/ROMs if you want them to show up in RetroArch’s playlist scans.

You can indeed download emulators from within RetroArch but not where you’re describing. Emulators (and other programs) that can run within RetroArch are referred to as “cores” and you get them from the core updater. The files you’re talking about are “content” (e.g., games) that can run via the cores. Your particular example is confusing because it’s an exe file, but it’s really a Playstation game. Most of the content we have in that downloader area are test ROMs for verifying that an emulator core actually functions and/or recognizes your gamepad inputs, etc.

Awesome. Thanks hunter. I’ve managed to source a couple Roms. One Snes and another psx.

The snes and the Psx worked fine but the psx did flash up with a ‘no bios’ warning and to expect errors. I briefly looked over the bios doc page on lakka and it talked about saving bios to the system folder and confirming the checksum with their data table. It even gave file names but again, not sure where to find these bios or is this also against the rules?

Sorry to be such a hassle

Correct, you’ll need BIOS images to avoid unnecessary bugs/incompatibility, and they are copyrighted, just like games, so we can’t tell you where to find them. Just google ‘psx bios pack’ and then make sure the checksums and filenames match (renaming, if necessary; case-sensitive).

Thanks mate. You have helped a lot. Cheers

In the libretro-database DAT folder, you’ll find a BIOS.dat that can be used to verify your BIOS files:
