Save states working on nightly builds?

Been using RetroArch for a few months now and decided to try the nightly builds this weekend. It looks like the Nightlies can’t load save states (.state files) from stable versions? Is this the case?

It’s not a matter of nightlies vs stable, but rather any change to a core has the potential to break state compatibility, so you shouldn’t rely on them for anything device-to-device and/or version-to-version. Savestates are literally a snapshot of the emulated console at a moment in time, so if you change the inner workings of the machine (e.g., by updating to another version of the emulator), the state no longer makes sense and can’t be loaded.

In-game *.srm saves should be largely portable, though, so you should use them whenever possible instead of savestates.
