Savestates between builds

Hey, i just updated retroarch to the 28/05-14 build (usually download via emucr), and my SNES states from the 15/05-14 build will not load, as if it doesnt exist. I also tried saving a new state, and overwriting it with my backup, but same result… I use the bsnes core, i also tried the megapack build, same result. For some games without .srm saving it gets a little tedious.

Do i do something wrong when updating, when i just overwrite the old files in my retroarch folder?

Savestates are very volatile and are known to often break between versions (particularly bsnes). They are a snapshot of the virtual console at that moment in time, so if you make changes to it (in the form of code changes to the core), the snapshot no longer makes sense. SRAM saves are consistent and can even be used across different emulators, so they are much more reliable for saving your games.

So, open your savestate with the old version, make an in-game/SRAM save and then load that on the newer version. If a game doesn’t support SRAM saves, you’re simply out of luck and have to start over.
