[Solved] Problem with TurboGrafx CD - Ys I & II

I am trying to get Ys I & II working using Beetle PCE FAST. I have a CUE+BIN format ROM that works in Mednafen. I am using the same BIOS file in RetroArch so that should be fine, plus loading the BIOS itself works. The ROM isn’t detected by the directory scanning, I’m guessing this is because it doesn’t match the database exactly. But if I try to load the CUE file directly, it says “Failed to load content,” and if I load the BIN file directly, I get a black screen. I also tried converting it into a CHD file, which gives me “Failed to load content.” I’ve tried a couple other ROMs of the same game and none of them worked.

Is RetroArch picky about ROMs versus Mednafen? Anything else I can try?

Is the BIOS named syscard3.pce and placed in RetroArch/system?

Yes, under core info it says “(!) Present, Optional: syscard3.pce (PCE-CD BIOS).” I don’t need syscard 1 or 2, right? BIOS md5 is 38179df8f4ac870017db21ebcbf53114.

I noticed in the logs it was looking in the ROM directory instead of system for the BIOS. I think this is because it is in a different hard drive. So I copied the BIOS over, and now I get a black screen instead of “Failed to load content” when I load the CUE file.

I don’t see any errors. It seems to work, but nothing happens. It just stops.

According to your log, you are loading the bin file:

[INFO] Using content: D:\games\PC Engine\selected_roms\ys1-2 from ia\Ys Book I & II [U][CD][TGXCD1002][Falcom][1990][PCE].BIN.

I tried the *.cue and everything looks good:

[INFO] Using content: E:\Roms\NEC - PC Engine CD - TurboGrafx-CD\Ys Book I & II (USA).cue.

I tested the redump verified cd:

For the bios: you have to tell RA in Settings - Directory - System/BIOS where to look for it.
On some systems the default setting is something like <Content dir>

Thanks, I was able to get it working with a different ROM, Ys I & II Ver 2.
