SSF Core?

Hi Squarepusher or Maister, you guys have any plans to implement the SSF core into RA? SSF is a great emu and would love to see it merged into the Android version of RA

There are a shitload of great Saturn games. A system that truly died before its time :frowning:

Not happening. It’s closed source, and most likely has a shitload of Windows dependencies anyway, so it’s likely not portable at all.

Oh damn…how do you know for SURE that this is the case? Perhaps you’re confusing it with another emu?

Windows-only codebases are usually shit from a portability perspective. There are almost no exceptions - Microsoft encourages it almost to a degree to further increase the vendor lock-inned nature of it all.

That and MSVC being a shit non-standards compliant compiler collection with totally absent C99 support and dodgy C++11 standards conformity doesn’t exactly help either.

I understand. That is unfortunate. Well, I guess the best we can hope for is wait til we get smartphones that can run full blown desktop versions of Windows 7 or 8. Or perhaps an app that allows us to run Windows in a virtual box on Android?

The best you can hope for is to pressure the SSF author to release the source for it. I doubt it could be ported, but it might lead to clues on how to better emulate the Saturn. This won’t happen though. Because:

  1. It may rely on hacks or work arounds, and there might be a pride thing at stake.
  2. Japan doesn’t have a culture of embracing Open Source mentality.

I was unaware that this was a Japanese developed emu. Thanks for the post and the link to his twitter. I might just do that.

He probably already got plenty of requests for going open source in the past. It’s not necessarly “Japanese=closed source” though. There are open source emulators for almost all major Japanese homecomputers of the 80s/ early 90s for example, especially Neko Project is relatively widely ported.
