I’m currently running the latest Wii version of Retroarch with Super Metroid, and compared to the VC release running on the same console, there’s a consistent flash/jitter during the intro as it scrolls around the pipes and dead bodies. This was a problem on my PC’s LCD as well, but I don’t see why a CRT is doing it unless its an emulation/settings problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Can you test this behavior with an older version? Version 0.9.9, was working so well to me.
You should also check that it doesn’t do it on actual hardware, if possible. Comparing to the VC isn’t always reliable because Nintendo would sometimes patch games to avoid edge-case behavior, suppressing flickering, etc.
This is what it looks like. I don’t have the original hardware, but I’ll look around for a video of it.
Snes9x will definitely be far more accurate than the Virtual Console as it focuses more on getting the game running as opposed to how accurate it is; with that said. do you know of any friends/family that has the original hardware to try it on and see if you can notice it that way? It happens on my end as well, also tested Higan, which has a high emphasis on cycle-accuracy, so it’s either how the game really behaves or it’s something that plagues emulators.
