Super Nintendo with different screen size in the same game

Question noob.

Some Super Nintendo games have different sized screens. (example is the game: Aladdin, Street Fighter 2, Star Fox I and II, and others Could someone tell me if it’s a bug in the Rom or the emulator?

SNES put out a few different resolutions (mostly 256x224, but also 256x240, 512x480 and 512x448). Some games also included varying sizes of borders in the overscan area. You’re probably seeing a mixture of these factors.

Correct SNES aspect ratios are certainly a divisive topic.

At the end of the day non-square pixels were all meant to be stretched to fit a CRT screen, and they were all slightly different shapes/sizes too.

Judging by some screenshots, the cited games all have notable borders in screenshots, they likely just don’t make use of the full resolution because of development choices. In theory bugs are possible, but given the maturity of SNES emulation it’s unlikely in these cases given how prominent the games are.

BLACK BARS IN DIFERENT POSITIONS (SNESX9 CORE)

Yeah, this is likely normal, very common for Capcom games on the SNES for some reason.
