Super ZSNES may be a Reality, ZSNES successor

For those who have been around since the very Early Emulation around 2000 year with Legendary Emulator titles like GENECYST or ZSNES, there is a very recent announcement that Super Zsnes is on development, GPU based. Check the video out by yourself. This, I hope can be a huge comeback & improvement beyond by how great Emulation has gone to these days, e.g: thanks to RetroArch and all of their Genius developers.

Apparently, It’s available for download. https://zsnes.com/

Anyone know if they intend to do a RA core some time down the road?

I haven’t heard anything suggesting it. I would assume not.

The interface and related options are also very attractive parts of the Super ZSNES. A Libretro core could not include it’s entirety so easily, especially the user interaction feel of ZSNES. Currently i can assume that the SNES emulation state in RA is highly satisfactory though.

For some reason, I thought of SNES9x when I read about this and thought they were the same thing and that it might be updated in RA. Now remembering ZSNES from way back. Sorry for the confusion.

is this any different than ZMZ that was released in 2013 or whenever? ZMZ was zsnes skin with a libretro core i believe. cant really remember too much about it tho

If you hit that link, above, they have several new features listed.

While I agree, there is still this new kind of special effects and features built into the emulator that will be proprietary to it. Just like back then when some Romhacks and Translations were proprietary to ZSNES, because they were developed with its quirks and optimizations in mind, we might get new versions of games and hacks that are only playable with the new Super ZSNES. And that is worrying to me.

this already happens with N64 where many hacks are only playable with an old version of Project64
