Sync to Content Framerate

Hey there, I have a GSYNC 144hz monitor and I have noticed that performance suffers considerably when “Sync to Content Framerate” is enabled. VSYNC only seems to perform considerably better. Is there some other options that need to be tweaked to get this to work properly?

Vsync needs to be on for this function to work properly.

If you’re on Windows, then also make sure you run in exclusive fullscreen mode. In Settings/Video, set “Windowed Fullscreen Mode” to “OFF”. Windowed mode g-sync can have severe stutter issues.

If you’re on Linux, make sure to disable desktop compositing.

And in both cases, make sure you switch to fullscreen (press “f”) and also make sure you’re using the highest refresh rate supported by your monitor. Check in the monitor’s OSD if the refresh rate is correct (on a 144Hz display, the monitor’s OSD should show 144Hz.) If everything is set up correctly, then go to Settings/Video, and highlight the “Set Display-Reported Refresh Rate” setting. It should show a value near 144 (like 143.8, 144.1, the exact value doesn’t matter.) Press the “Start” button on your controller, or space on your keyboard. This will modify the “Vertical Refresh Rate” value (two lines above) to match. Manually save the settings (or quit and restart RetroArch do automatically save them) to make sure they don’t get lost.
