Tyoushin Heiki Zeroigar En translation for PC-FX

The game works yes, but it crashes and has problems, most likely (I’m speculating here) due to the conversion process from the patched file to the bin/cue format required by the RetroArch core.

If you want to play the game flawlessly, you need standalone Mednafen. If you want to play the translated version of Pia Carrot, you need a real Turbo Grafx-CD or (possibly) Magic Engine.

I can confirm I played the game (original, no translation, bin+cue) till the end without issue in Retroarch a while back.

unmodified/unpatched version has the same issues as the patched version when playing in RA in latest build with the 9.33.x core which so far don’t have the same issues when running in latest standalone mednafen 9.39.x

is a PFF patch unlike the one used in zeroigar. will still probably work

UPDATE : Pia Carrot works, but only on standalone mednafen/magicengine-fx. retroarch’s mednafen pc-fx core stucks at black screen after selecting uniform

hope core gets updated soon, even if only a few titles are worth playing

some shots from english translated attached:

I updated the pcfx libretro core, launched the game again, finished level 1 and went into level 2. So no issue here with the original unpatched game on windows 7 x64.

My cue + bin image is 602MB.

How did you get Pia Carrot working on Mednafen standalone? On the PC-FX load screen, it just froze for me.

NOTE: apply the translation patch in pia carrot 1st before doing this procedure. remember the translation patch in zeroigar? there is a tool there in english-patch folder named “bchunk.exe” use that to convert you cue/bin piacarrot into wav/iso. use this command in dos prompt:

bchunk -v -w “name_of_piacarrot_file.bin” “name_of_piacarrot_file.cue” piacarrot

it should create piacarrot01.wav, piacarrot02.iso, piacarrot03.wav, piacarrot04.wav, piacarrot05.wav

then use this cue sheet and play in standalone mednafen

Very amused by your resourcefulness. Hats off to you, sir.

Looks like some soft porn dating sim gaming is in my near future.

i play because of the “anime” content, but… HAHA. anyways oh-my-goddess has a current progress in translation by the same team who made patch for pia carrot. dunno what other pcfx games has translation or currently being done.

Right, right.

Those two games ought to be working for the Mednafen core. I care a lot more about Zeroigar, but someone put a lot of work into translating these games, and considering most of the games are in Japanese and unplayable because of the language barrier, that gives them value.

That’s awesome! I would love to play through the Oh My Goddess game. I found that anime to be inexplicably entertaining.

Hopefully the core get’s updated so we can play these via RetroArch. At this point, using any other emulator feels like riding a bike one-handed.

i just put up an issue report of it in github, hopefully compatibility will be increased

Edit: Got it working, my previous issue was user error. I didn’t have the controller set up properly.

Also, for anyone else trying to do this, a slight edit to his original instructions.

bchunk.exe -v -w “Pia Carrot He Youkoso.bin” “Pia Carrot He Youkoso.cue” piacarrot

I found another one. Ruruli Ra Rura Translated En. You want to take a crack at that, wertz?

It’s a .ups patch. I can’t even get the bin to patch right with the patcher prgoram (that isn’t even included), it gives me some stupid error.

Edit:

You know, I really hate to say it… but after testing an extensive number of games, the RetroArch core of Mednafen PC-FX kinda sucks. I’ve found several others that won’t play properly. Game loads, you hear sound, but you don’t see anything. Regular Mednafen doesn’t have these kinds of problems… and if compatibility is better with standalone Mednafen all around, I’d rather just use that.

in ruruli ra rura. you need to to the “bchunk” thing on the bin/cue 1st before applying ups patch to track 2. just search for ups patcher you will find it.

yeah, my very old x550 gpu runs on standalone emus than in RA. they seems to be more inclined to support newer hardware

Man you are too good at this stuff. Thank you!

I’m working on my ‘ultimate hyperspin’ project, I try to use RetroArch whenever possible, but this is one of those cases where the standalone is just better.

this core really needs updating or fixed:

https://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4084&p=52336&viewfull=1#post52336

troubleshooting update: i cannot find a fix(not dev/programmer here). tested all the way to 2014 commits of mednafen core and still have the same black screen issue. i cannot compile anything older. even tested with an old version 1.0.0.2 build of Retroarch it still turns black. was this core working from the start?

I could fix the display bug and add the special buttons. Mednafen is sending a 1024 pixels wide picture for some reason that wasn’t allowed in Retroarch (PC-FX is supposedly 640 width max on paper). I had to change my Hard GPU Sync to 1 frame instead of 0 to avoid slowdowns.

Here is the core for win x64 as the buildbot doesn’t seem to work atm.

Hey wertz, how do I make a cue sheet for that Ruruli Ra Rura? I’ve applied the patch successfully, but all I’ve got is an .iso file and a bunch of wavs.

Edit: I examined what you did with the cue sheet for Pia Carrot, and came up with this for Ruruli Ra Rura. Does this look right to you, wertz?
