Yeah I don’t want that. I still like to see savestate notifications and such.
Well, I don’t know if a Beetle PSX core dev/maintainer has been reading this thread or it’s just a coincidence but the ability to hide Beetle PSX-specific OSD messages (while still retaining other notifications) has apparently just been added.
What is the point in using Duckstation, what it does that hasn’t already been done in PCSX ReARMed or Beetle PSX? I loaded the stadalone Duckstation in Android, switched to 2x res or something, Geom Correction and has many graphical issues in Metal Gear Solid. Yes it looks great like a PC game with correction but is unplayable, can’t pass some areas, the player is stuck unless you switch off geom correction.
In the end, it also looks weird. Like adding a chassi and another pair of tires to a bicycle and saying “look! It’s a car!”.
I actually made a feature request on the github issues page and DarthMew was kind enough to implement OSD message hiding!
Something I found out when trying to use DualShock as my core default controller on a game that doesn’t support analog like Crash 1 in Beetle. Even with Analog Toggle enabled, after closing and restarting RetroArch the controller inputs don’t work. There’s an issue open about it that it doesn’t maintain digital mode after restarting here. So it’s still easiest to use the standard controller as your core default and only create game remaps that set it to DualShock for games that support analog. SwanStation starts with the DualShock in digital mode unless you enable the force analog core option. I guess that’s better for games that support rumble, but not analog, like Little Ralph.
Hi there pals!
The texture replacements of swanstation and Beetle PSX HW cores are incompatible??
I’m really confused about it and where to put the texture packs for each cores, to make retroarch load them!!
yes, we added it first in beetle-psx-hw and specifically asked they not do that in the swanstation upstream so as not to fracture the budding scene (thereby dooming it before it even gets started), but that didn’t pan out.
Thats a pity because duckstation got many pgsx updates. It has even an interal runahead which was more performant than retroarch. Bettle has also various bugs with opengl which duckstation fixed with its vulkan renderer.
If beetle gets a vulkan renderer like duckstation it would be an alternative but currently duckstation is the best ps1 emu out there
That’s an opinion, not a fact. I prefer the original experience and Beetle has me coveree better than Duckstation. It’s only an issue if you seek upscaling and hacks. But, if it’s a must for you, then you need to reevaluate if you really appreciate retro games, as it’s what they are.
Swanstation’s ability to turn off interlacing is a big advantage over Beetle. That improves video quality immensely in 480i games even if you’re the type to prefer native res software rendering. And the BIOS runs in 480i, so that always looks better in Swan without the combing artifacts. I’ve found that if you use the software renderer and switch CPU emulation to interpreter, Swan is pretty much as accurate as Beetle. Maybe that port of Captain Commando still has glitchy sprites; I didn’t test if interpreter fixes that.
I guess many many many others prefer to enjoy game with better visuals. Judging about preferences is just a very sad attitude you show here.
As explainend the interlacing feature increases the experience a lot, the runahead adds more playability. Duckstation is just more advanced than beetle with its current updates that is fact.
Beetle-PSX-HW has a vulkan renderer that predates Duckstation altogether. It’s very good and has way fewer bugs than Beetle-PSX-HW’s OpenGL renderer.
All PS1 Cores work well
Yes, we’re lucky to live in a time when we’re spoiled for choices. I find the “one emulator has to be the best and everything else is trash! emu X rulez and everyone else droolz!” mentality tiresome.
100% Agree
There are no laws against using Multiple Emulators
I use other Emulators quite Happily as they might play a Game Better or Emulates Better
Normally an emulator should try to cover its game library. But some do better some do not in terms of accuracy or improvements. The balance of both needs to fit in my opinion.
I was not aware that there is a vulkan core for psx beetle.
I actually use both emulators, Beetle and Swanstation. Beetle PSX is set to software renderer and Beetle Interpreter for CPU for accurate recreation as possible. And my Swanstation is setup for higher res and with some corrections, faster drive spin and such, I call it the HD setup. This way I can enjoy both ways in RetroArch.
I do basically the same with two different playlists, one using swanstation for upscaling (mainly used for 3d games) and the other with beetle (sw) for 2d. Very happy with the set up, but it is true that I miss having a option to remove the combing effect for 480i games in beetle sw.
