Version 0.9.9.6 working current Version not

I cant possibly be the only windows user? Anyways, Love the app, was researching GLSL shaders and came across it’s info. Just wanted windows users to know the older version “0.9.9.6” actually works on Windows, if they are having problems with the current version, ( my Machine is win 7, 64bit ATI Radeon and I’m running the 32 bit version of Retro_Arch on a external drive * both 64bit & 32bit seem to work fine of v 0.9.9.6 release : ) compiled versions of it can be found easily online, Google it, well not super easy but they can be found. This is my first encounter with the app so I was sort of concerned regarding the programs reliance on Nvidia GPUs because I saw the CG.dll’s in the host folder, no worries, it seems version 0.9.9.6 runs just fine on my older ATI card. Actually very excited to tinker with this, thanks for your efforts.

Current version does work fine for me.

Try to kill \shaders\retroarch.cgp If a shader is not working for your card and crashes retroarch at start, it’s saved in this file. This will be created again with a new shader you’ll select in the GUI.

Or try a different driver for your video card.

Or in retroarch.cfg change video_driver = “gl” to “d3d”.

I’m having the same problem. 0.9.9.6 works fine, but Retroarch 1.0.0.1 starts with the error messages:

RetroArch [ERROR] Cannot open video driver… Exiting… RetroArch [ERROR] Fatal error received in: “init_video_input()”

It immediately closes before getting to the menu.

Changing video_driver from “gl” to “d3d” changes the error to

RetroArch [ERROR] Fatal error received in: “find_video_driver()”

Windows XP SP3 32bit Intel Core 2 Duo (3ghz) Radeon 5670 HD

I believe that’s related to a known issue of some drivers misreporting their color capabilities, which causes RetroArch to fail. It’s already been fixed in git, but the official packages haven’t been updated yet. In the meantime, try replacing your retroarch.exe with this one: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3b2aa … -02-01.zip

I think the correct driver is D3D9

Unable to locate avcodec-55.dll

This works, though

Edit: Except now Retroarch won’t save me specifying what folder the cores are in, I’m getting crackling sound in a lot of games and I can’t maximize the window anymore; it’s either fullscreen or bust.

I guess I’ll just stick with 0.9.6, yeesh. What a headache.

Edit 2: Sound problems seem to be localized to the SNES cores (SNES9X, SNES9X-NEXT, all versions of bSNES). The problem with it not saving what folder cores were in is because I needed to specify the folder for config files first, which seems remarkably silly as it was successfully saving every other option besides that one.

Your problems seem a bit weird tbh.

The core path shouldn’t be changeable from RGUI, I’ve opened a ticket about that but it hasn’t been reviewed yet. That path is autopopulated when you select a core for the first time.

Sound cracking could mean your PC isn’t fast enough or that VSync is broken, check if vsync is enabled, disable hard gpu sync and retry

Check the guide on my sig for more information on these options.

Checking more thoroughly, I get crackling sound in the following cores:

SNES9X SNES9X Next bSNES Accurate bSNES Balanced bSNES Performance Nestopia bnes Mednafen PSX Mednafen Neopop Meteor GBA

I do NOT get sound crackling in:

Genesis Plus GX Mupen64 Plus Mednafen Virtual Boy VBA-M

I have to leave right now but a cursory glance suggests that turning Vsync off does fix the issue (at least as far as bSNES Performance and Super Mario Kart is concerned). It’s probably worth mentioning that even when Vsync was on, Genesis Plus GX was quite clearly tearing.
