VSync on Android

Question for the devs: Does turning off vsync in retroarch actually do something on android?

Not with threaded video enabled, which it is by default in Android, IIRC.

Isn’t it impossible to get perfect vsync with threaded video enabled? I always turn it off.

Yes, threaded video is always a little stuttery but it’s also nearly impossible to get perfect sync on many Android devices either way, and at least threaded video doesn’t cause audio crackles. It’s a lesser-of-two-evils situation.

I actually have both disabled then use audio sync instead and it works great but still crackles on fast forward.

What about when not fast forwarding? I know it’s the lesser of two evils and I do get proper audio with it on (threaded video), as the last version I had crackled to oblivion (thank you very much for being badly optimized, Android 5.1.1), but was curious on how the video and audio ran.
